The mountains we were going to, or through...as seen from our place in Tirano.
June 24: This was it! We would be taking the big red train, the Bernina Express, through the Italian and Swiss Alps on a glorious June morning!

Because I was pretty speechless the entire trip, I'm going to simply let a sampling of the overwhelming number of photos we took that day say all that is needed. Enjoy.

Our first-class car, which we shared that day with only two other couples, leaving us to bounce around to all of the best windows for viewing at any moment.

One of the perks of riding first class was that each of us received our own souvenir tin of Swiss chocolates.

And with this last in-SPIRE-ing shot, I'll release you from the rest of our drop-dead gorgeous photos of our best train experience.
We arrived in Chur, Switzerland around midday, grabbed our bags, and set off for our new temporary home.

We are now in Chur for a couple of magical days.
Next: fondue and goat's balls.
I fell in love with Switzerland when Kevin and I stayed a week in the village of Lauterbrunan near Interlachen. Such beauty we found there, a deep valley underneath hillsides leading against high cliffs over which poured numerous waterfalls. If that wasn’t enough, it was topped by three of the highest Swiss Alps, the Monch (SP ?), the Eiger and the Jung Frau. We also took the train ride to see the Matterhorn, but fog had covered it that day so we said, “No matter, Horn’. and enjoyed the trip back to our little cabin in the Alps. We also took a little cog train up to see an Alpine Garden which was quite a great. Ah, there is so…
That looks like our kind of train ride. Beautiful!

That was our favorite train ride in Switzerland, too. We stayed just above the castle in Chur. You two have had an incredible journey. We're in Heathrow right now waiting to fly back to Boston. See you in August, Jerry and Karen Reynolds
